Anja Michals is the founder of Bay Area–based studio Anja Michals Design, known for creating refined interiors that feel both elevated and effortlessly livable. Since launching her firm in 2014, she has focused on high-end residential design, shaping homes that balance thoughtful personalization with a strong sense of architectural harmony.
Originally from Sweden, Anja draws lasting inspiration from her Scandinavian roots and the summers she spent there growing up. This influence is reflected in her work through a quiet sense of warmth, simplicity, and understated luxury. Her interiors are layered yet relaxed, blending natural materials, curated details, and a deep respect for the architecture of each home.
Before founding her design studio, Anja spent a decade working in the fashion industry in New York, an experience that continues to inform her refined eye for proportion, texture, and composition.
Based in Mill Valley, Anja works on projects ranging from new builds and full renovations to furniture and interior transformations, collaborating closely with architects, builders, and craftspeople to bring cohesive, meaningful homes to life.
