Brutalist-Meets-Victorian? It Works Wonders in Supply’s Imaginative Wallpaper Designs

Before Supply Showroom opened in 2015, Austin didn’t have a to-the-trade source for luxury wallpaper.

The company’s three founders, Callie Jenschke, Kim West, and Kristin Gish, noticed this hole in the market when they moved to the Texan capital from New York City—and promptly decided to fill it. They began by selling high-quality wallpaper by independent brands and artists, which solidified their place on the Austin design scene. Nearly seven years later, they launched their own wallpaper collection.

Now, Supply is a go-to destination for designers all over the country. Their wallpaper line is colorful and pattern-filled, with motifs ranging from sweet florals and Texas-inspired botanicals to bold geometric shapes. According to its trio of founders, the best is yet to come. “We're always working on something,” shares Callie. “We've got so many collections in the pipeline, which is awesome because it means that people like it and keep wanting to buy it.”

Our design philosophy

Callie: Our design philosophy is how our (very different!) personal design aesthetics meld together in pattern and color. We're kind of fighting the whole beige thing, the three of us. We just think color is pretty and happy and we want people's houses to be vibrant. Even if you’re a contemporary modernist who only likes clean lines, you can still love pattern. We’ve tried hard, with all of our vendors, to represent something for everyone.

What inspires us

Kristin: We find inspiration through travel, reading, social media, and our clients' work. I was in a bathroom in Capri, Italy and saw a tile that was so amazing. I snapped a photo of it and added it to the shared drive that we use for inspiration. That tile became an inspiration for one of our wallpapers. Nature is also big for us. Our whole Texas collection was inspired by the flora and fauna of Texas. Art is a huge inspiration, too. The discovery of a new artist is one of our favorite things. Sometimes they find us, and sometimes we find them.

What differentiates our products from the rest

Callie: We're happy that our wallpapers are printed in the USA by another small business and made with the finest materials.

The place that most accurately represents your brand

Callie: Austin, Texas. It's just so authentic and vibrant and buzzy. Supply is buzzy and Austin is buzzy.

Our biggest “pinch-me” moment

Kristin: Our goal when we started the showroom was to create our own product. It felt like a badge of honor for us, that we'd worked so hard to be able to launch our own collection. It was not easy, financially or time-wise. But as our showroom grew and we were able to hire more senior people to run it, it gave us more time to actually work on our own line of wallpaper. After years of thinking and talking about it, seeing our ideas come to life was a pretty awesome feeling.

The architectural era we’re into right now

Callie: We each have different answers because we're architecturally very different. Kristin is a traditionalist when it comes to homes. Kim loves the Victorian era. She lives in a doll house. And I’m more Brutalist, very modern. But somehow it all works. When the three of us come together, the best parts of our aesthetics meld to become one, which creates the Supply beauty.

The colors we’re loving right now

Kristin: We love unexpected color combinations. Aubergine and ochre, blush and olive, and teal and rust seem to be our favorites of the moment. We're inspired by fashion, as well. All of us have unique styles when it comes to dressing. We often see a lot of the color trends start in fashion and then slowly trickle into the home. We like to be a little bit faster and a little bit more on the forefront of those trends.

What we love about Showroom

Kristin: We admire the roster of Experts and Showroom is filling the gap for a client that wouldn’t normally have access to such a “expertly” curated mix of offerings. Showroom has a large audience who have a sophisticated eye and that's exactly who we want our product to be in front of.

What’s next

Callie: The next step for us is launching fabric in the fall. And we’re always designing more wallpaper collections!
