For over twenty years Richard Shapiro has presided over his eponymous enterprise, Richard Shapiro Studiolo, specializing in period furnishings from antiquity through the twentieth century, as well as Studiolo, the esteemed collection of contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories of his own design.
A renowned designer and tastemaker, widely know for his ability to mix periods and styles, he is regularly sought out as an arbiter of matters related to interior decoration, architectural and garden design.
In 2016, Rizzoli released a stunning and best selling monograph of his work, "Past Perfect, Richard Shapiro Houses and Gardens". The book focuses on Shapiro’s two magnificent, much-imitated homes, which provide a broad array of examples related to living graciously with antiques, replicating the aura of antiquity, and the complex challenge of marrying centuries-old building materials with new construction.
His interiors, gardens and architectural design have been prominently featured in Elle Decor, Veranda, Vogue, House & Garden (UK, cover), Architectural Digest USA (cover), AD Germany (cover), AD France (cover), AD Italy (cover), the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, California Homes, Elle Décor A List, AD at 100-One Hundred Years of Architectural Digest, Vogue Living, Collector's issue of the World's Most Extraordinary Homes (cover feature) and many other books, publications and blogs focused on design.
